Will the Doula take over?
 
A Doula does not take the place of a father in childbirth, but helps to bring them closer together. A Doula can help the dad stay calm and focused while he is giving the love and support to the mother. When dad needs a break - the Doula is there to continue the constant care of the mother.

Dads may worry that they aren't doing the right thing or not enough. A Doula can help guide him to help care for and support the mom by giving suggestions, providing encouragement or giving needed breaks during a long labor.

A Doula helps the dad to be moreinvolved and more effective. The nurses cannot be with you at every moment or may not be at liberty to answer your questions in an unbiased manner. The doula fulfills this role so that parents can recieve the information they need to make informed decisions.

In short, the couple will find that the Doula enriches the father's role by supporting both of them, not just the woman.
